Freely Given: All Things Through Christ
He who didn’t spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things?
Our Heavenly Father has shown us the very depth of His love. He did not hold back anything, not even His most precious treasure. Romans 8:32 tells us, "He who didn’t spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all." Think about that for a moment. God gave up His only Son, Jesus, to suffer and die for our salvation. This was not a small thing; it was the ultimate sacrifice, the greatest gift ever given.
This verse then asks a powerful rhetorical question: "how would he not also with him freely give us all things?" If God was willing to give us the greatest gift imaginable – His Son, who is far more valuable than anything else – would He then hold back the lesser things we need? Would He make us work to earn or somehow coerce other blessings from Him? The answer embedded in the question is a resounding 'no'. Because He gave Jesus, we can be confident that He will also generously provide everything else we truly need, and He will do it freely.
This truth helps us understand God's heart correctly. When we engage in practices that suggest we can manipulate God to get Him to act – like buying certain items for 'miracles', or 'sowing seeds' with the expectation of a guaranteed return – we might unintentionally be implying that Jesus' sacrifice was not quite enough. Such actions suggest we need to add something to what God has already done through Christ to unlock His favour or blessings. But Romans 8:32 reminds us that God's giving is already complete and free, established at the cross.
Our confidence in God's provision should rest not on our clever methods or special rituals, but on the unfathomable love He demonstrated by giving Jesus. When we face daily challenges, whether in our families, our work, or our health, we don't need to try and twist God's arm. Instead, we can trust in the same loving Father who delivered His Son for us, believing that He will graciously supply all things according to His wisdom and goodness. His generosity in Christ is the guarantee for all His other provisions.
Let's Pray
Our Father, we thank You for Your immeasurable love, shown to us in the gift of Your Son, Jesus. We praise You that You did not spare Him, but delivered Him up for us all. Help us to fully grasp the truth that if You gave us Your greatest treasure, You will also freely give us all things we truly need. Deliver us from any thought or practice that suggests we must earn or coerce Your blessings. May our trust be fully in Your boundless grace and the complete sacrifice of Jesus. In His name we pray, Amen.
