All Things For Life And Godliness

2 Peter 1:3-4 · World English Bible

seeing that his divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue; by which he has granted to us his precious and exceedingly great promises; that through these you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust.

Our passage today from 2 Peter reminds us of a powerful truth: God’s divine power has already given us everything we need for a life that honours Him. The Apostle Peter writes that “his divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness.” Think about that for a moment. Not some things, not most things, but 'all things.' This means that through our connection with Jesus, we are fully equipped, lacking nothing essential to live as God intends us to live, and to pursue Him faithfully in every part of our lives here in Uganda.

This incredible provision comes “through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue.” It is not about buying special items, following complex rituals, or performing specific acts to earn God's favour or power. Instead, it is through knowing Jesus – understanding who He is, what He has done, and trusting in His finished work on the cross. This knowledge is not just head-knowledge, but a deep, personal relationship that transforms us. It empowers us to escape “the corruption that is in the world by lust,” giving us a way out of the sinful patterns that often try to trap us.

If God has already “granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness,” why do we sometimes feel the need to seek additional remedies outside of Him? Why do we sometimes believe that certain practices, objects, or financial transactions are necessary to receive breakthrough, healing, or favour? When we look to these things, it can subtly suggest that what Jesus did on the cross was somehow incomplete, or that God's provision in Christ is insufficient. But Peter clearly states that God’s “precious and exceedingly great promises” mean we can become “partakers of the divine nature” through what He has already given us.

God has not left us wanting or needing to chase after external solutions to fill a void that only Christ can fill. Our faith is not a marketplace where we exchange money or perform duties for divine blessings. It is a walk of trust in a God who has already poured out His best for us in Jesus. Let us rest in the completeness of His provision, knowing that His sacrifice was truly enough, and His power continues to sustain us in every aspect of life.

Let's Pray

Heavenly Father, we thank You that by Your divine power, You have already granted us all things that pertain to life and godliness. Forgive us for the times we have looked for solutions outside of Your complete provision in Jesus Christ. Help us to truly understand and walk in the fullness of Your grace, resting in Your exceedingly great promises. Strengthen our knowledge of You, so we may live lives that reflect Your glory and escape the world's corruption. May we always trust in the sufficiency of Jesus' sacrifice for us. Amen.
