Soaring with Renewed Strength
Haven’t you known? Haven’t you heard? The everlasting God, Yahweh, The Creator of the ends of the earth, doesn’t faint. He isn’t weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; But those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.
The prophet Isaiah begins this passage with profound questions: “Haven’t you known? Haven’t you heard?” These questions remind us of truths we should already hold deep in our hearts. He then declares who God is: “The everlasting God, Yahweh, The Creator of the ends of the earth.” This God, our God, “doesn’t faint. He isn’t weary.” He is never tired, never exhausted, and His wisdom is so vast that His “understanding is unsearchable.” What a comfort it is to know the One who holds all things together never grows weary.
Yet, we humans do grow weary. Isaiah reminds us that even the strongest among us—the “youths” and “young men”—can “faint and get weary,” and “utterly fall.” We see this in our daily lives; the demands of work, family, and life in Kampala can leave us feeling drained, physically and emotionally. We push ourselves, but our strength has limits. This is a normal part of being human.
But the passage doesn’t leave us in our weariness. It offers a powerful promise: “those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength.” To wait for Yahweh is not to do nothing, but to actively trust in Him, to depend on His power rather than our own fading strength. It means turning to Him in prayer, listening for His guidance, and submitting our burdens to Him.
And what happens when we wait for Him? Our strength is renewed in an extraordinary way. We are told, “They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.” Just as an eagle rises effortlessly on the wind, God enables us to rise above the things that weigh us down. He gives us the inner stamina to keep going, to face challenges without giving up, even when the path is long and difficult. When we feel we can no longer take another step, He provides the strength for us to walk and not faint.
Let's Pray
Almighty God, our everlasting Yahweh and Creator, we thank You that You never faint or grow weary. We confess that we often rely on our own limited strength and quickly become exhausted by the challenges of life. Forgive us for not always waiting on You. Help us to truly trust in You, to depend on Your boundless power. Renew our strength, Lord, that we may rise above our weariness like eagles, run without growing tired, and walk without fainting, all for Your glory. Amen.
